Ella and her family are most excited now that ‘Ella’s house adaptations’ are completed and easing life for Ella and her family.
The project involved creating a suitably sized bedroom for Ella and her equipment from two existing bedrooms. A through-floor lift was also installed, together with providing an accessible bathing facility, complete with ceiling track hoist from the bedroom to bathroom and also in the lounge.
Ella’s parents give us the background on the need for these adaptations:
“Before the adaptations we were having to carry our daughter up and down the stairs which was becoming increasingly difficult and unsafe as she is now 9 years old. We were also having to lift her in/out of the bath which again was becoming very unsafe and difficult. We were also struggling to get Ella around the house in her wheelchair to access all areas of the house.”
The works involved for the project required £6,500 to be raised above the Disabled Facilities Grant and top-up funding awarded for the adaptations. Having raised the funds through Sullivan’s Heroes, Ella’s parents enlighten us on the differences the works have brought about:
“We have now had doors widened and thresholds lowered to allow Ella to access more areas of the house and she can now easily get out into the garden in her wheelchair. A through floor lift has been installed so we can now easily and safely get Ella upstairs in her wheelchair to access her bedroom, which is now bigger, and a new bathroom. There is a ceiling track hoist from her bedroom to bathroom to allow us to safely hoist Ella in/out of the bath and in/out of her bed. The room downstairs which houses the lift was a room and the garage, which have now been knocked into one so Ella now also has a nice relaxing sensory area.”
