Libby’s lift

Libby Wells
Surrey

In order for Libby to access a bedroom on the same floor as the rest of the family a lift needs to be installed together with an accessible wet room.  By installing a lift it will allow Libby to be included in family daily life more easily and safely.  Due to her sleeping difficulties it is not appropriate for Libby to have sleeping space downstairs as her parents need to be able to get to her quickly.

Libby is a very happy girl and loves being around her family, particularly her sister and brother.  She has a large extended family and is always attending family occasions - watch this space for regular photograph postings!!  Libby also loves going to school where she has opportunities to learn using a variety of equipment and sensory resources.

To kick start the fundraising Libby's Uncle Andrew has entered the Chester Marathon which will take place on 2 October.  Libby and her family hope to cheer Andrew on and meet him at the finish line.  Click here for further information Read Andrew's story   Also Essential Energy Theatre School in Matlock, Derbyshire will be donating the proceeds from selling show programmes in October.  Anyone can raise money in whatever way they wish, or simply donate but whatever anyone does - THANK YOU!!

Libby is a happy seven year old who lives with me her mum, her dad and sister and brother in Surrey. She has a diagnosis of Global Development Delay, Cortical Visual Impairment, sleep disorders and a history of infantile spasms.

Her difficulties are complex and long term which means she has to attend a specialist school. Libby relies on us to lift and hoist her, as well as feed and attend to all her other needs. Libby's sister and brother are twins and they play a big part in taking care of her and it is apparent from Libby's big smiles that she loves them being around.

In order for Libby to better access everyday living she needs and is going to need further adaptations and specialist equipment in our home. We are therefore wishing to install a lift, wet room and accessible equipment so that Libby’s sleeping/bathing arrangements can remain on the same floor as the rest of us but can be accessed safely and comfortably. These adaptations will mean that all the family can safely mobilise Libby around the home and that she can be more easily included in daily family life.

Libby's Matlock family hosted a coffee morning on Saturday and raised a massive £710. Great thanks to all who donated and who helped out. As you can see from the pictures it was a great turn out. Please keep the donations coming in..... thank you!.

Andrew has done his last long distance run at the weekend too plus his number has arrived. His number in the marathon is 1949 so look out for him if you're in Chester on Sunday 2 October!! Deana, Darren, Daniel and Carla will be in Chester to cheer Andrew on at the finish line. Yay!!

Big thank you to Matlock Rotary Club who have donated £250 and also local theatre school Essential Energy for donations from selling programmes who raised £325.25.  We are now over the halfway mark towards achieving the 10k target.....  thank you!
