Finlay was born 8.5 weeks early and spent 5.5 weeks in neonatal. As a result of his prematurity he has cerebral palsy, is a full time wheelchair user, has a cortical visual impairment and nystagmus.
Finlay is big brother to Rafferty and Freya and is an amazing young man who takes everything is stride and has a real zest for life.
We grew out of our family home during COVID and I knew moving from a partially adapted house to a house that wasn't adapted would be challenging, but I never expected that three years after moving we would still be living in a home without adaptions.
Finlay has never lived in a fully adapted house and that makes me sad. He deserves to have access to all of the things that we take for granted. He can't move around freely, he needs support to access the bathroom, he has no privacy, our family space is cramped and our home is disabling.
Fortunately, he is a robust young man and although he gets frustrated he is still a happy teenager.
Having a fully adapted home will improve Finlay's life more that you can imagine, the adaptions will enable the following positive changes:
Finlay will have easier access in to his home.
He will have his own bedroom and more privacy.
He will have an accessible kitchen suitable for a wheelchair user with appliances that he can use safely.
Finlay will have a downstairs wet room that he can access without support.
We will have open plan living space, allowing him to move around freely and a space where we can spend time together as a family.
Finlay strives to be as independent as he can be, and the adaptions will enable him to become more independent at home.
