Lily-May and Ali's 1.5km swim challenge for Room4Reuben

Not only are we delighted to see fundraising for Reuben’s home adaptations reach an impressive 38% of the £15,000 target required, but Reuben's 7 year old sister Lily-May and his Godmother Ali are bravely challenging themselves to swim further than they have ever swum – a gruelling 1.5km swim ReubenWoodsSupportNow2taking place on 8th April 2018 – to boost the funds raised to meet this target required to build a ‘Room4Reuben’.

The funds raised are to provide Reuben with a downstairs bedroom with en-suite level access shower room and access to a safe and suitable garden to meet his physical and learning disabilities. These adaptations will make an enormous difference to Reuben’s life – he will have his own bedroom for the first time, and be able to access his bedroom and shower room independently without needing to be carried or supported on stairs which are a real danger to him.

Reuben will be able to access the shower much more easily than the current bathroom allows and his toileting needs will be met in a dignified way. As ReubenWoodsSupportNow1Reuben grows the easy access shower room will enable him to develop independence with toileting and washing.

Extending the living space allows the downstairs bedroom to be built for Reuben, whilst providing enough space for his equipment, and a safe accessible garden space will be created so Reuben will not only be safe, but can develop more independence in his play with his siblings and friends.

We wish Lily-May and Ali well for this event, and to show your support and raise funds for Reuben please visit: www.sullivansheroes.org/projects/room4reuben/
